France and Estonia will hold a meeting of European defense ministers on Monday to discuss ways to enhance support for Ukraine. This information comes from sources at the publication Bloomberg.
Approximately a dozen colleagues from countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Poland, as well as representatives from the European Union and NATO, will participate in the videoconference.
"European leaders are rushing to develop new defense plans, given the prospect of the U.S. ending its extensive military and financial support for Ukraine. Washington has also begun peace negotiations - a prospect that will affect the security architecture on the continent for many years to come - without the involvement of Europe or Kyiv," the article states.
It is noted that the defense ministers' meeting will coincide with a trip to Kyiv by several European leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, three years after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. EU foreign ministers will also meet in Brussels on Monday.
Importantly, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer are set to travel to the U.S. next week to meet with American leader Donald Trump.
The War in Ukraine - Partners' Position
French President Emmanuel Macron issued a statement supporting Ukraine and security in Europe. He stated that France and its partners stand with Ukraine and will take full responsibility for ensuring peace and security in Europe.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed support for Ukraine in light of recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump. He defended the "rules-based order," which, according to him, has maintained peace and security for nearly a century.
