German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Ukraine will receive 6 IRIS-T systems from Germany by 2025. This information was shared on the social media account of Germany's defense ministry.
According to him, Germany will transfer the previously announced six IRIS-T systems to Ukraine in 2025.
"Germany continues to reliably and actively support Ukraine," Pistorius added.
He also stated that the group of allies focused on accelerating arms supplies to Ukraine is best led by the United States, but will adapt if Washington changes its involvement.
"And if the United States decides not to support this format anymore, we will have to make our own decisions," Pistorius said during the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, sometimes referred to as "Ramstein." This was reported by Reuters.
The minister added that it is too early to speculate on what might happen to the group's format after Donald Trump takes office on January 20.
Pistorius also expressed that he is "surprised" by Trump's refusal to rule out military or economic measures for the annexation of Greenland, but he remains optimistic that the comments from the elected president will not affect current U.S. policy.
"I don't know exactly what he aims for, but allies and alliances are meant to remain as such; otherwise, they would simply be free associations rather than allies," he stated.
Support for Ukraine from Germany
It was previously reported that Germany will provide additional guided missiles to Ukraine for the IRIS-T systems, initially intended for the German army, in a timely manner and will adhere to its delivery schedule for the promised systems.
