The President of the United States Donald Trump seeks not just a ceasefire, but a complete end to the war in Ukraine.
This was stated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. "He wants the war to end. He isn't looking for just a pause; he wants it to be over, and that will be difficult, and it must happen in stages," the politician said, according to the State Department.
Rubio noted that this is precisely what Trump conveyed to the Russian dictator Putin.
The Secretary of State outlined a rough scenario for ending the war in Ukraine, mentioning that it could begin with a ceasefire. However, as the Secretary pointed out, no agreements have been reached on this yet, and negotiations have not even been initiated.
Next, in his opinion, there will be steps to open things like aid corridors and ensuring that both sides refrain from targeting energy infrastructure. "Let's see how this works out," Rubio remarked.
The Secretary of State expressed confidence that Trump is "the only one in the world who can unite something like this, but it must be a global effort, meaning countries from around the world need to be involved."
He reiterated that Europe must provide Ukraine with long-term security guarantees, while the U.S. "will be interested in Ukraine's long-term independence."
The U.S. and the End of the War in Ukraine
The American president Donald Trump stated the possibility of negotiations regarding Ukraine's fate between Russia and the U.S. Immediately after taking office, he noted that he is determined to end this war as soon as possible.
At the same time, U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that the U.S. authorities will impose sanctions on Russia and send their military to Ukraine if the Russian dictator refuses to negotiate an end to the war.
