On the evening of Tuesday, January 21, Russian occupation forces launched a massive attack on Mykolaiv using Shahed-type kamikaze drones.

At 22:38, the Command of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on their Telegram channel that Russian unmanned aerial vehicles were heading towards the city. Local residents reported hearing a series of explosions in Mykolaiv.

Subsequently, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, reported that the occupiers had launched seven Shahed strike drones at the city. As a result of the attack, apartment buildings were damaged and fires broke out in the city. There have been no reports of casualties so far.

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Alexander Senkevich, wrote on Telegram that utility workers had been dispatched to the sites of the "strikes":

"Unfortunately, there are damages throughout the city. We will begin to address the aftermath."

Later, it became known that the firefighting efforts in an apartment of one of the buildings were still ongoing, with people being evacuated. There were also reports of damage to a private house, from which a injured woman was rescued from the rubble.

"There is a fire in the reeds. There is damage and a fire at an infrastructure facility. Rescue workers are also on the scene," the mayor added.

Drone Attacks on Ukraine

The country is currently repelling yet another wave of Russian drone strikes. Air raid alarms have been sounding for an extended period in several regions.

During the attack yesterday, Ukrainian air defense shot down 72 drones over the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Rivne regions.
