The team of the new President of the United States Donald Trump is facing a military reality that they have not encountered before, and no one knows what decisions the new leader will make regarding the war in Ukraine. This was stated by people’s deputy, secretary of the parliamentary committee on national security, defense, and intelligence, SBU colonel Roman Kostenko during a broadcast on Espreso.
"About a month ago, I was in Washington and spoke with both Democrats and Republicans, and they do not know what will happen during Trump’s term, what decisions he will make. Yes, he promised that he would quickly end the war, but those were campaign promises. Once he became president - it’s not that simple. And they already understand this," Kostenko said.
The deputy noted that members of Trump’s team, while trying to address the issue of the war in Ukraine, "encountered a military reality that they had not experienced before."
"And with the real Russian Federation, which has already entered the war and has spent significant resources and claims leadership in Europe, and wants to seize Ukraine," he added.
According to Kostenko, the United States can stop the war from a position of strength when Ukraine is strong. Otherwise, he stated, there is no point, as "Russia always comes back."
"Simply stopping shooting will not be possible, that’s for sure. If there are negotiations, the United States will have to take them seriously. I believe they have a real opportunity to end the war only from a position of strength when Ukraine is strong, and Russia realizes that continuing hostilities makes no sense," the elected official explained.
