The issue of mobilization in Ukraine and the number of mobilized citizens has evolved over time. It became more pressing over the past year, which is why Ukraine will have to make an independent decision on whether to lower the mobilization age to 18, according to U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, who serves in President Joe Biden's administration.
"This is a critical issue, and it is something Ukraine will have to address, even if we do everything possible to provide them with the ammunition they need," he remarked in an interview with Bloomberg.
Sullivan also emphasized that Ukraine's need to "be able" to fully equip brigades and battalions is increasing as the U.S. supplies a vast quantity of ammunition and military equipment.
"Let’s see how this develops moving forward. Ultimately, this is a sovereign decision that Ukraine must make itself. However, we have clearly and even publicly stated that the issue of human resources is important. This is something Ukraine needs to manage," Sullivan stated.
Other Statements on Mobilization of 18-Year-Olds
Earlier, UNIAN reported that the U.S. has not fully grasped the mobilization issue in Ukraine. "In my opinion, where Voltz and all other Americans go wrong is that they do not understand the essence of the problem. They believe that if we are short on people, it means that all those who are required by law to serve are already serving," noted former company commander in the Aidar battalion, Yevhen Diky.
Additionally, military analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko also does not believe in the idea of mobilizing 18-year-olds. He stressed that this decision could, in fact, lead to a demographic disaster for the country.
