In the administration of the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, it is believed that Ukraine and Russia are not yet prepared for peace negotiations. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, as reported by Ukrinform.
In this context, the politician refuted the claim that the new U.S. sanctions against Russia were introduced as a bargaining chip in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, since "as of now, there are no expectations that the parties are ready for such negotiations."
"This was not done with the expectation that it would be a bargaining chip that could be taken off the table when Ukraine wants to sit down at that negotiation table. Currently, there are no expectations that either side is ready for negotiations," Kirby emphasized.
According to him, the decision to impose additional restrictions against the Russian Federation was based on forecasts for both external and internal markets in the energy sector. At the same time, Kirby confirmed that earlier extensive sanctions in this area were postponed to prevent rising energy prices in the U.S.
