The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, has called for funding assistance to Ukraine from Russia's frozen assets. He shared this on his social media page X.
"Enough talking, it's time to act! Let’s finance our support for Ukraine using frozen Russian assets. We will strengthen air policing, the Baltic Guard, and the EU's borders with Russia. Let’s swiftly adopt new fiscal rules to fund EU security and defense. Immediately!" - emphasized the politician.
Frozen Russian Assets - What We Know
Earlier, the media reported that the Russian delegation during negotiations with the US in Riyadh requested the unfreezing of assets and the easing of sanctions against the country. This pertains to a portion of the Central Bank of Russia's reserves, specifically 6 billion dollars, which was invested in dollar assets before the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
At the same time, Foreign Policy noted that Russian assets are a trump card for Europe in the war in Ukraine. They emphasized that the confiscation of Russian assets would serve as a powerful deterrent against the use of military force to alter internationally recognized borders.
