Structures pose a significant barrier for a considerable number of individuals
Currently, in the capital, the number of underground and above-ground pedestrian crossings is three times greater than the total in all other regional centers of Ukraine. Moreover, only a negligible portion of these is duplicated by ground-level crossings, which creates substantial challenges for pedestrians, particularly for certain categories.
This information is reported by the NGO "Passengers of Kyiv".
As noted by the organization, underground and above-ground pedestrian crossings are among the most complex barriers that mobility-impaired groups must navigate in our cities.
At the same time, only 4 percent of such crossings in Kyiv are duplicated, despite their total number in the city reaching 262.
Analysts from the NGO agree that, unfortunately, not all pedestrian crossings can technically be duplicated at ground level. However, each such case should be an exception to the rule, not a common practice for local authorities.
As a reminder, the Municipal Corporation "Kyivavtodor" has closed the pedestrian bridge on Saperno-Slobidska Street due to its emergency condition. Now, to cross the busy roadway, pedestrians must cover a considerable distance to reach the nearest crossing.
