Journalists from the YouTube project "In the Shadow of the Chestnut" conducted an investigation
The water that Kyiv residents freely collect from city fountains is not actually free for them — the city's inhabitants have already paid for it with their money.
This conclusion was reached by the journalists of the YouTube project "In the Shadow of the Chestnut".
"The management of 'Kyivvodfond' claims that the water in the wells and fountains is free. However, this is not entirely true," the journalistic investigation states.
According to the media professionals, while you can certainly come and collect water without paying directly at the well, the point is, the journalists emphasize, that you have already paid for it through your taxes. This is because tens of millions of hryvnias from the capital's budget are spent annually on the creation, maintenance, and servicing of these fountain complexes. For instance, in 2018 alone, over 12 million hryvnias were allocated for this purpose.
Moreover, "Kyivvodfond" has been exposed for another deception: the enterprise has never calculated the volume of water consumed by Kyiv residents from the wells, yet it claims that the demand for fountain water is increasing.
