Drivers in the capital lack self-discipline
Residents of the capital are urging those responsible for transportation traffic in the city to mark problematic intersections with special signage that prohibits drivers from entering these road sections during traffic jams.
An appropriate petition has been posted on the Kyiv City Council website.
As the authors of the initiative explained, the lack of penalties for drivers violating clause 16.4 of the traffic rules (which prohibits entering any intersection, particularly on a green traffic light, if a traffic jam forces the driver to stop at the intersection) has contributed to the prevalence of such behavior on the roads of the capital.
Due to this, the signatories propose that the city authorities initiate a pilot project: to renew and apply yellow markings at certain intersections, install automatic traffic violation cameras, and fine vehicle owners who remain on the yellow markings for more than 10 seconds after the traffic light switches from green to red.
It is worth noting that a Kyiv high school student has prepared a project titled “Development of an Intelligent System for Automating Monitoring and Managing the Transportation System of Kyiv Using Artificial Intelligence.”
