The temple was erected three centuries ago
Residents of the capital are urging the city authorities to restore the Bogoyavlensky Cathedral of the Bratsky Monastery, which was destroyed by the Bolsheviks in the 1930s, located at Kontraktova Square in the historic Podil district.
A corresponding petition has been registered on the Kyiv City Council website.
As the initiative's authors explain, the Bogoyavlensky Cathedral was a priceless masterpiece of architecture from the era of Ukrainian Baroque. It was constructed according to the design of the renowned architect Yosyp Starchev in the 18th century. Additionally, the cathedral served as the burial site for the famous Ukrainian military leader — Hetman Petro Konashevych-Sahaydachny and other dignitaries of our state.
Let us remind you, in Podil, a developer is preparing a site for the construction of a residential complex on the location of last year's demolition of the oldest historical building in the area.
