The route will provide conveniences for city residents
Residents of the capital are urging the city authorities to resume work on extending the Borshchahivskiy rapid tram to the "Palace of Sports" metro station and Sports Square.
A corresponding petition regarding this issue has been posted on the website of the Kyiv City Council.
As the initiators explain, in recent years, all public transport in Kyiv has essentially been divided into two roles: the metro serves a major function, transporting a large number of passengers over long distances, while other transportation serves as a "supplement," bringing people to the metro. However, over the last 20 years, the city has been actively developed, and now the metro is overloaded beyond safe levels, and its capacity does not meet the total demand.
At the same time, research has shown a significant demand for a route from Borshchahivka to the city center. This means that the old rapid tram route to the Palace of Sports, which existed until 2001, is still relevant today. Therefore, if it were restored, many people could use the tram instead of the metro, which is currently overloaded.
It should be noted that currently in the capital, the number of underground and above-ground pedestrian crossings is three times greater than the total in all other regional centers of Ukraine.
