Undisciplined drivers create additional problems on the roads
Residents of the capital are suggesting stricter penalties for violations related to lane changes, which would help reduce traffic congestion.
A corresponding petition has been registered on the Kyiv City Council website.
As the initiative's authors explain, Kyiv faces numerous challenges with transportation and traffic jams, but some of these jams are caused by the drivers themselves: there are many "smart" drivers who switch to adjacent lanes and then attempt to squeeze their vehicles into the lane where law-abiding drivers are waiting for their turn to pass through the problematic road section.
As noted by the petition signers, such traffic rule violations often lead to minor accidents, which subsequently create even greater traffic jams.
“We urge the city authorities to install violation detection cameras and penalize such drivers. These cameras would provide greater control on the roads, ensure fair passage in congested areas, and bring funds into the budget from fines,” the residents appeal to the responsible officials.
It is worth noting that earlier, residents of the capital called on officials responsible for the city's traffic to mark problematic intersections with special lines that prohibit drivers from entering these road sections during traffic jams.
