Preparatory work is underway in Kyiv for the restoration of the Mykolaiv Church, which was damaged as a result of a missile strike by Russian occupiers on the morning of December 20. Currently, restorers are focused on carrying out urgent measures to preserve this cultural heritage site.
This information was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
According to the ministry, special temporary equipment will be installed to prevent further deterioration of the building, which will help maintain an optimal temperature inside the structure.
These actions, specialists noted, are aimed at protecting the facades and interior spaces from external influences while preparatory work continues for the restoration.
Among the primary measures planned is the production of new glass elements for the central stained glass composition, which was destroyed during the shelling.
The Ministry emphasized that the restoration of the church will be based on authentic drawings and records in the restoration passport of the object, and the stained glass will be made from modern materials that meet today's challenges, fully revealing the vision of the authors from 1899-1909.
It is worth noting that on the morning of December 20, Russian forces launched a massive missile strike on Kyiv. As a result of debris from downed aerial targets, there were injuries and fatalities in the city, and damage was inflicted on residential infrastructure and vehicles, including the St. Nicholas Church.
