For the support of the Defense Forces and assistance to veterans, overall spending planned for 2025 is less than that allocated for investment projects. Meanwhile, in the final days of 2024, city officials are actively trying to "utilize" the unspent budgetary funds.

This was reported by activists and Kyiv City Council deputies in the latest episode of the YouTube project "In the Shade of the Chestnut."

“For the first project submitted by Mr. Repyk to our commission, 702 proposals were provided. What is lacking in this budget, and why does it need adjustments? The most critical issue is the lack of sufficient expenditures for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is a disgrace for a city with a budget of nearly 100 billion hryvnias to allocate only 574 million for the Armed Forces. The budget has significant growth potential: there are 29 billion hryvnias in the city's accounts, and we expect a substantial surplus that can be directed, among other things, to support the Armed Forces,” noted Andriy Vitrenko, a Kyiv City Council deputy and head of the permanent commission on budget issues, socio-economic development, and investment activities.

As journalists point out, funds for the support of the Defense Forces were allocated this year as well, but as of September 2024, Kyiv has been unable to utilize all the resources provided.

Specifically, there are 50 billion UAH remaining unspent in the city budget. Instead of directing part of these funds to support the Armed Forces, the Kyiv City State Administration is hastily spending the budget on road and park repairs in the rain and snow.
