Last Tuesday, the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration announced that he had submitted a resignation letter
The head of the KCSA, Vitali Klitschko, did not confirm the temporary suspension of his deputy, Volodymyr Prokopiv, amid a corruption scandal.
During the Kyiv City Council meeting on October 31, council member Ksenia Semenova addressed Klitschko, demanding to know if Prokopiv had indeed been suspended and to publish the relevant document on the Kyiv City Council's website.
However, instead of Klitschko, Prokopiv himself took the floor, stating that he had not "violated the law".
“To prove this, the day after the release of this story (the BIHUS.info investigation into Prokopiv's entourage purchasing elite housing in Kyiv, – ed.), I went to NABU and submitted a request for an investigation. I hope that such an investigation by a competent authority will be swift and impartial.”
Following this, he publicly appealed to Vitali Klitschko, asking for a protocol directive to the Department for Prevention and Detection of Corruption of the KCSA to check his activities as the Deputy Mayor.
At the same time, Volodymyr Prokopiv did not mention either his temporary suspension, which Klitschko had announced on October 22, or his own Facebook post that day, in which he stated that he had submitted a resignation letter.
In turn, Klitschko, who spoke after Prokopiv's address, also did not give a direct answer to the council member's question, instead praising his deputy.
“I consider Volodymyr Prokopiv's action to be correct, as he personally initiated the NABU check of the materials presented by journalists to dispel all speculation,” said the city mayor.
