The pipe was repaired, but the building was forgotten
In Kyiv, on Symon Petliura Street, due to an accident on the heating main, the facade of the second floor of the 136-year-old Anna Borodkova building collapsed. As a result of this emergency, two windows of the historical building are now hanging in the air above the arch.
This was reported on social media by the Kyiv heritage protector Dmytro Perov.
“The rupture was localized quite quickly, and the network operations were resumed. However, the situation with the historical building seems to have been somewhat neglected: no supporting structures or any significant emergency or conservation measures have been taken,” Perov wrote.
According to him, a week after the heating main accident, the damaged arch turned into a collapsed second floor and a potentially hazardous third floor. The users of the building, who were allowed to return, were once again “relocated”.
It seems, Perov noted, that the fortunate coincidence of a technical accident and the liquidation of a “low-profit” historical structure conveniently merged into one story, and someone decided to take advantage of this.
“Just wait and declare the building as emergency and unsuitable for further use. We’ve seen this somewhere before, haven’t we?” warned the defender of Kyiv’s heritage about the potential further developments.
