Activists have begun fundraising for restoration

An unexpected turn of events has unfolded regarding the destruction of a 100-year-old retaining wall by employees of "Kyivzelenbud" at the corner of Chekhov Lane and Bulvarno-Kudryavska Street: it turns out that the municipal workers lack the funds to clean the old bricks needed to restore the monument.

This was reported by NGO "Heritage".

“The city lacks funds for brick cleaning, and the contractor claims there are no qualified specialists available. In total, 1263 century-old bricks need to be manually cleaned — that amounts to 50,000 UAH, to preserve an important piece of Kyiv’s history,” the activists wrote.

In light of these developments, concerned residents of Kyiv have initiated a project to integrate the bricks into a new retaining wall and, together with local inhabitants, have already raised more than half of the required amount.

As a reminder, at the end of October, during the landscaping of a park at the corner of Bulvarno-Kudryavska Street and Chekhov Lane, municipal workers demolished a brick retaining wall that was built in 1912. Activists collected the remaining bricks, and the municipal workers agreed to restore the damaged structure.
