The European Championship serves as the primary event for the IBU Cup 2024/25 season. The race results also contribute to the overall IBU Cup standings. Most national teams tend to overlook this tournament, fielding reserve and young athletes; however, Ukraine is frequently represented by members of the main biathlon team.
Interestingly, South Tyrol will host the European Biathlon Championship for the first time. This marks the 32nd European Championship, which has been held annually since 1994.
In the men's races, our country's honor will be defended by Ruslan Tkalenko, Artem Tyshchenko, Denys Nasyko, Bohdan Tsymbal, Roman Borovyk, Anton Dudchenko, Vitalii Mandzyn, and Taras Lesiuk.
In the women's races, both reserve athletes and main team biathletes are expected to participate, including Yuliia Dzhyma, Iryna Petrenko, Khrystyna Dmytrenko, and Olena Horodna. Notably, Dzhyma is likely to compete only in the relay.
The leader and captain of the men's national team, Dmytro Pidtrychnyi, will completely miss the 2025 European Championship.
Athletes will compete for medals in individual races, sprints, pursuit races, and relays. Each day will feature two races—one men's and one women's for each discipline. There will be one day off between the individual races and sprints, during which an open training session will be held.
In Ukraine, the official broadcaster of biathlon is Public Broadcasting. All races will be shown live on the "Public Sport" channel and regional Public channels.
"Champion" will provide text-based online coverage of all races at the 2025 European Championship.
