Historic moment: Ukrainian sumo wrestlers triumphed at the tournament in Tokyo.

Serhiy Sokolovskyi from Melitopol (known by the pseudonym Shishi Masaru) and Danylo Yavhusyshyn from Vinnytsia (Aonishiki Arata) have achieved phenomenal success, each securing 10 victories out of 11 possible in the Juryo category, which is the second most prestigious division in professional sumo. This marks the best achievement for Ukrainians in this traditional Japanese sport.

The Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan, Serhiy Korsunskyi, congratulated the wrestlers on their triumph, emphasizing their contribution to promoting Ukraine worldwide.

Particularly impressive is the journey of Serhiy Sokolovskyi, whose family experienced Russian occupation, adding even greater emotional depth to his victory.

The Ukrainians have become the second and third representatives of our country in the history of professional sumo, following the legendary Ivan Boryshko, known as Taiho Koki.

It is noteworthy that the tournament in which the Ukrainians competed is one of the six most prestigious annual events organized by the Japan Sumo Association. The Juryo category, in which Sokolovskyi and Yavhusyshyn participated, is a crucial step for ranking advancement.
