Six Ukrainian players started in the main draw. Daria Snihur (the qualifying winner who played an incredible match on center court against Collins), Yuliya Starodubtseva, and Angelina Kalinina were eliminated in the first round; Dayana Yastremska and Marta Kostyuk fell in the third round.
All the girls performed according to their "on paper" rankings. Only Elina Svitolina provided her fans with a pleasant surprise. Somewhat unexpectedly, the 30-year-old, but undeniably legendary Svitolina, advanced to the second week of the competition. Her powerful performance in the quarterfinals against the future champion opens new possibilities for Elina's performances this season. She can do anything!
100 Svitolina wins at Grand Slam: from Oprandi to Doulhyde
This tournament also served as an important boost for the prospects of the Ukrainian national team, which could aim for the final stage of the Billie Jean King Cup. There is still plenty of time until April, but such a Svitolina can help the team, despite a tough draw against Poland and Switzerland.
In numerical terms, AO-2025 for Svitolina looks like this: four victories, 12th quarterfinal.
"Grand Slam," third – in Melbourne (matching her personal record), 102 total victories at majors, and 24th place in the world ranking.
1. Elina Svitolina – 102 (+1);
2. Andriy Medvedev – 63;
3. Lesya Tsurenko – 38;
4. Oleksandr Dolgopolov – 34;
5. Kateryna Bondarenko – 29;
6. Marta Kostyuk – 27;
7. Olena Bondarenko – 26;
8. Serhiy Stakhovsky – 24;

In the tournament preview, we hinted that this event could rank among the top three in the history of Ukrainian tennis. There were strong arguments for this, including three seeded players (Svitolina, Kostyuk, and Yastremska). They accounted for all the victories, totaling eight, which is the third-best result in the 33 editions of AO when our flag was raised.
The top-3 looks like this:
14 – (2024);
11 – (2018);
8 – (2011, 2024).
It is worth noting that Ukrainians have achieved a total of 122 individual victories in Melbourne: 32 by men, 90 by women. Notably, two of these victories were under the flags of the USSR and CIS.
* – Main draw
** – One of the four victories by Medvedev was achieved at AO-1990 under the USSR flag; Dmytro Polyakov won at AO-1992 – as part of the CIS.
The next Grand Slam stop is the Paris Roland Garros, with the main draw taking place from May 25 to June 8.
