Switzerland has expressed its readiness to organize a meeting between the elected President of the United States Donald Trump and the ruler of Russia, Vladimir Putin, should they request it.
This statement was made on January 10 by Nicolas Bide, head of the information service at the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a comment to the Swiss newspaper Le Temps.
"Following the summit in Bürgenstock, Ukraine, Russia, and the USA have been regularly informed of our willingness to support any diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing peace," noted the Foreign Ministry representative.
Le Temps highlights that the Swiss authorities do not intend to take the initiative to organize negotiations but are ready to do so at the request of the parties involved.
Meeting Between Trump and Putin
Recall that during the election campaign, the American politician claimed he could bring the presidents of Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table. At that time, he stated that the war could be ended in one day.
After his victory, Trump mentioned that he wished to meet with Putin. By the end of the year, Moscow indicated that several countries had offered to host their meeting.
