In the Rivne region, a 2-week-old boy who was injured in a traffic accident has died in the hospital.
On Friday, February 7, an accident occurred on the road between the villages of Rachyn and Myrohosty in the Dubno district of the Rivne region. Medical staff fought for nearly a day to save the life of the injured boy, who was only 2 weeks old.
However, on February 8, despite the resuscitation efforts, the child passed away. This was reported by the National Police.
According to law enforcement, a 32-year-old driver of an "Opel Vectra," a resident of the village of Zaruddy in the Ternopil region, lost control while overtaking a "Skoda Fabia." Around 16:40, his vehicle veered off into a forested area and flipped onto its side.
Preliminary reports indicate that the driver was sober, and biological samples were taken from him.
As a result of the accident, the driver and his passengers were injured: his 38-year-old wife, 16-year-old daughter, and 14-year-old son. After receiving medical assistance, they were released.
At the time of the accident, the infant was just 13 days old. The boy sustained severe injuries and was admitted to intensive care. He died in the hospital around 18:40 the following day.
Currently, law enforcement is considering reclassifying the criminal proceedings to "violation of road safety rules resulting in the death of the victim."
